Faceless Nudes By Eva Okrent
In partner with our latest program, sponsoredBY, Eva Okrent debuted her sophomore paint series, Faceless Nudes. Held in Studio Elevn's studio b, the interactive art exhibit emphasized the complexities of human form and vulnerability while encouraging vagueness through the absence of facial identity.
Opening the exhibit, Okrent recreated her home studio in the middle of the room by staging a live model and an assortment of acrylics smeared across a glass palette ready to be painted on a used, self-stretched canvas. The installment filled the room with her intended theme of intimacy as it transported arriving guests away from the traditional art gallery and into her personal workspace. As Okrent finished the painting and opened dialogue between her model and her guests she explains her purpose, “the process is just as beautiful and important as the end result.”
The later half of the night was greeted with dancing and live music by previous sponsoredBY winners, Strange Familia. Alongside, locally brewed beers and well-favored boxed wines attracted guests into the bridal suite where prints were being sold and Canon’s short throw projector played a video from the artist (video shown below). Guests lingered long after the intended closing time to soak up what remained of the atmosphere Eva Okrent and her paintings had created. It was truly an experience that nobody wanted to walk away from.
